Letter Home-Ward
Dear my beloved Emily,
I do miss you so. These days seem so empty without you. Although I am honored to serve my country, I do miss you. I miss your eyes, and how they sparkle when you see our child. I miss your beautiful smile and how it shines when you laugh. I miss your lovely lips and how they move ever so gracefully as you talk. Tell Ma and Pa I say hello and that I miss them. Ask Pa how his newspaper is going, and how Ma is doing with her nursing. I love you, and can't wait to see you it should only take six months to bring the south back to the union and abolish slavery.
Bye, my beloved darling,
Thomas Ward
