1863 Journal Entry-Long

January 2, 1863 Today all slaves from rebellious states were freed from bondage . Lincoln finally signed the final Emancipation Proclamation . Mom and Dad will be so happy. This document will probably release few slaves because southern slave states are not going to release their "property".  I think this proclamation will help a lot to end slavery. Parts of the Confederacy that get liberated by our troops will probably be affected . This war has been very eventful. I think the Union is winning so far.

Journal Entry 1862 - Stanton

Here I am again,                                                                                                                    July 1, 1862 The war hasn't been doing any better. There's this man on the Confederacy, horrible, but a great and quite brilliant leader. His face is blank even amidst battle... they call him "Stonewall" Jackson. My regiment and I, we were there to witness him at Shenandoah Valley. I wouldn't like to admit it, but this is dead paper, something only I am to see, his tactics were ingenious, cornering us in such a way that we had no choice but to die or leave. So close to Union headquarters, D.C., so we had to hurry up to spread out as many troops as we could to defend the area , while also making sure the civilians were safe. Oh, how I envied them, watching the war in third person. But it is my duty to protect the country as best as I can, nothing will stop me from that goal. It was a longer battle than we anticipated, and I cannot

Journal Entry 1862- Thomas Ward

March Ninth 1862, Today was hectic. There was a battle, a new kind of warfare. Our Monitor and the Rebels Virginia Ironclad ships. We call them “ Gladiators of the Sea”  and they fought for two hours off the coast of Hampton Roads, Virginia but neither could get an advantage over the others. Your writer, Thomas Ward April Seventeenth, 1862 Today was I fought in my first battle. Victories at Ft. Henry and Ft. Donelson our general Grant continued our success at Shiloh in central Tennessee. I fought bravely but truth be told I was terrified. I was lucky I heard the there were over 23,000 casualties. Your writer, Thomas Ward

The Battle of 1862                                                        By: Parsons Well here I am today giving a report on how we are seeing things,This new topic got interested we see a new area changing. As we can see that this had no words to explain,Not only did this battle bring a huge impact but it was one of the most Bloodiest words in history that's what it was known for not so many people can forget this battle. We can see that some people through this battle had so many ways of expressing it and opinions. I wonder what they would say? anyways lets get started. Battle of 1862: During the time April 1862-November 1862 both captains dislike each other lets just say if they saw each other they would have many words to say and wont be good. They were both leaders of their team intelligent but some not so good with it they won the victory but not. They were both fighting for different things.General Robert Lee south agai

Journal Entry 1861 - Long

12/4/1861 I have been so busy lately and I have not written in this journal since the start of the Civil War. First President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers back in April and that is when I joined the Union. Then 4 days later   11 people died in Baltimore because when soldiers from Massachusetts marching towards Washington got ambushed by civilians. Then the south chased the union and picnicking civilians after the battle of bull run. The winning army was aloud to eat the food that was left behind. Then congress created income tax that takes 3% of incomes more than 800$ a year. Lastly we got a new army chief. George McClellan replaced Winfield Scott.

Letter 1861-Parsons

Its that time again where we get a lost its sad to see us a Union together not get a victory.I continue looking and fighting for what I came for.I write this and think about what we could of done.It was sad to not see us,I look around at this instant moment and see how much we got in us. Our leaders are powerful  people that will lead us to do the impossible I am not gonna lie it was a discourage that we didn't win but know that theirs more to come . The battle of Bull run in 1861 was one of them as i write i express how it happen. We together as a union fight to the end we had the most people from the other side the Confederate troops moved north i guess you can say it wasn't the best idea.As we got back we were all had something to say we think about what we did wrong. From the past few days all of us have been practicing and getting better at our skills for many things.Have I mentioned that we got a new tax from congress it was a good push for the Union Government .Me

Journal Entry 1861 - Stanton

November 27, 1861, I'm back from battle, and I am finally finding time to write in this little journal of mine. I never thought it would be so difficult, truly, I thought that the Union would be better than this. Our battle with the South at Bull Run river,   was very discouraging. My regiment needs a leader who is fearless and can show that he can stand proud in the face of terror, and instead I was cowardly and ran like a little schoolgirl, most of our ranks did. It pains me to admit, but I am scared, I fear for my life, and I fear that the war won't be as easy as we'd thought. The past few moths I've been refining my skills, learning how to properly shoot a bayonet and such. We even received new items, finer boots, more bayonets, and slightly better food. I heard it was all because of an income tax that was set up by Congress , letting us get that fine new material. Speaking of, we have a new General, General McClellan. He is quite young for his position, but

Thomas Ward 1861

Dear my darling Emily, 1861 has been a treacherous time. First, on April 15, I was one of the 75,000 volunteers to enlist. I remember how you knew I had to go but you did not want me to. Then on the 19th of April, I hear about a riot in Baltimore as I am sure you did too. Eleven deaths! The first casualties of this war.  Then on July 26 the Union and the Confederates have the Battle of Bull Run, the first major battle. This is all very overwhelming and with a Confederate win, I think this war will last a lot longer than I thought.  But in November the Union got McClellan! He turned us into an elite force.   hopefully, my love, 1862 will be better and in 1862 this treacherous war will be over and I can come home to you. I miss you I hope you will write back soon. Also please check in on Mother and Father from time to time. Father wrote to me saying Mother is terrified when she gets mail, always thinking I have been killed. So please try to comfort her during this scary time. I l

Letter to Parents Cornbread- Ward

Dear Mother and Father,   Life here is not great. Our food is not that tasteful. The cornbread we at is nothing like yours . you need   ½ cup yellow cornmeal,  1 cup flour,  Pinch of salt,  4 eggs,  2 tablespoons milk, and  3 tablespoons of butter, softened. Combine the cornmeal, flour, and salt in a bowl. Then add the milk, eggs, and butter and mix well. Pour into greased cast-iron skillet and bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. It tasted just fine but I prefer yours, mother. We do not have the same tasteful ingredients you add to give it flavor.

Letter Home - Long

Dear Mother and Fath er , I have just enlisted in the union army  and I am super exited to fight  against slavery.  I decided to enlist because Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers . Father you should write an editorial about Lincoln all the ones I have read are pretty bad, I think you can do better.  Some of the other soldiers in Insurgent are also history professors .  I really miss you mother, I have been craving your blueberry pie and I miss having a clean room .  I heard about the abolitionist rally  you spoke at in Maine. I was so worried about you all I never thought someone would try to hurt you. Well I have got to go now and I will try to keep in touch with you all.  Love you, Isaac J. Long

Letter Home-Parsons

Dear Mother,     There so many things I would like to tell you.First there was so many reasons why I had to leave            home.I had to make a stand by what was right.I had to stand by a group of people that believed in          the same way I did.The past few days I had joined the union something I knew was the right thing to do there was people that had the same type of felling that I did about slavery. As of course you know I am a type of person that would do anything and everything to accomplish something. You don't even   know how many issues and conflicts theirs been about slavery.Over the Election of 1860 was one of   them of opposing sides of slavery it was one of the most impact presidential elections in American History. One of the main issues were about slavery and state rights. As I write about how history these days are I spent time thinking on what we do about it together as a union.I hope that I accomplish something but at the end I would want to change somet

Letter Home - M. Stanton

To my Father, I've been part of the Union for a few days know. Almost a week, I'd believe. As you know, I joined because I felt it was necessary to show my loyalty to the country. You've known I've always longed for a purpose, so when President Lincoln was in need of men at Fort Sumter, I saw an opportunity. I know you wished to accompany me, but I couldn't let you make that sacrifice. But worry not, it has been reported to me that this wretched war should take around six months . In fact, they've already begun in the state of Maryland, a city called Baltimore . The men I lead are not stationed there, but we've heard that the first shots of war have been fired there already. But worry not for me Father, I will be back home with you, my wife, my kid and step-children. I may not be able to promise many things, but I assure you this one I will keep. Your son,  Bruce Stanton

Letter Home-Ward

Dear my beloved Emily, I do miss you so. These days seem so empty without you. Although I am honored to serve my country, I do miss you. I miss your eyes, and how they sparkle when you see our child. I miss your beautiful smile and how it shines when you laugh. I miss your lovely lips and how they move ever so gracefully as you talk. Tell Ma and Pa I say hello and that I miss them. Ask Pa how his newspaper is going, and how Ma is doing with her nursing. I love you, and can't wait to see you it should only take six months to bring the south back to the union and abolish slavery. Bye, my beloved darling, Thomas Ward
